Research Associate (Job Number: 191188W-01)
We are seeking a Research Associate to join our multi-crop yield trialing team at the Kinston Research Center in Kinston, NC. This team is responsible for conducting multi location yield trials to produce high quality phenotypic data to support product characterization and advancement decisions of MG V-VII soybean varieties and 108-118 CRM corn hybrids for the Southeast.
Primary responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
Plan, organize, and conduct new experiments by interacting with multiple internally developed databases and computer programs.
Operate specialized agricultural research equipment to prepare, plant, spray, and harvest research plots.
Work independently to diagnose and repair mechanical issues. Minimizes down time by correcting issues quickly and staying current with preventive maintenance.
Collect field notes and upload to the database using handheld devices.
May participate in an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) team as a pilot, assistant, or image analyst to collect field imagery for phenotypic analysis.
Help with seed lab activities during winter months, including seed cleaning, treating, packaging, shipping, and inventorying.
May supervise a team of hourly workers to complete nursery, purification, or disease screening tasks.
The following are required:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, plant breeding, or related field and 0-2 years of industry related experience, or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience
Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 lbs
Some limited overnight travel and extended work hours during periods of peak activity
Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
The following are preferred:
Experience in agronomy research or related field
Strong knowledge of row crop production and scouting
Experience operating agriculture equipment
