Key Tasks:

  • This position performs duties to obtain test samples, conduct laboratory analysis of samples and monitor equipment operation—involving boiler feed water, reverse osmosis productions, cooling tower, Turbogenerator condensate return and other sources of frequency according to specifications.

  • Places samples in bottles and labels them, takes samples to laboratory, conducts analysis to maintain process within specifications.

  • Makes adjustments to chemical feed rates and control set points, as needed.

  • Maintains SPC charts program for key cooling tower operations and maintains cooling tower log sheet. Checks results to ensure that readings stay within the established parameters.

  • Operates Deaerators from control panel to control temperature of water and tank level. Ensures that specified quality standards are being maintained.

  • Maintains 2% blow down rate in sulfuric boilers to maintain specifications and keep boiler log. Makes blow down rate adjustments, as necessary.

  • Monitors and inspects equipment for proper operation. Looks for hot bearings, leaking pumps, etc.

  • Visually monitors water storage tanks. Adds chemicals as needed to maintain the proper mixtures. Maintains proper tank levels. Monitors pump rates and makes adjustments or coordinates repairs as appropriate. Monitors condensate system and works with A-Operator on package boiler. Monitors relationship with outside vendors.

  • Enters work orders into EAM to facilitate timely repairs on equipment and issuance of permits for equipment repairs.

  • Notifies the Operator II or Shift Supervisor of any abnormal conditions.

  • Follows safety rules and keeps work area clean and orderly.

  • Learns to perform duties of the Operator II in order to be able to fill-in as a back-up.

Requires a commitment to improve and develop new skills, including safety and environmental awareness, for the protection of employees and company assets in order to maintain a low-cost and competitive position in the phosphate industry.

  • Must be able to perform multiple jobs simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of all of the hazardous characteristics of the chemicals used in the water treatment process.

  • Ability to work with and around hot water, steam acid and electrical power.

  • Mathematical and chemical aptitude.

  • Working knowledge of computers in order to be able to operate equipment and insert necessary analytical data.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.

  • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 on Applied Math and 4 on Locating Information in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien.
